Faculty Collaboration Database for Faculty Activity Tracking

Summary

  • The Department uses the institution's Faculty Collaboration Database (FCD) to track our faculty's scholarly, professional and research activities, instead of our former Faculty Activity Checklist
  • Must be completed by May 15, 2021
  • You only need to enter activities that took place in the current academic year (July 2020 – June 2021)
  • Focus first on activities which are outlined in the Key department activities section below
  • Enter specific dates for all entries; items with missing or invalid dates will not count
    • Add start dates for all items
    • Leave end date fields blank to indicate ongoing activity
    • For individual events like lectures, enter the date for both the start and end dates
  • Activity visibility must be Public or Protected
  • When adding or verifying lectures, specify whether the lecture is "New" or "Repeat"

Please see the Managing your Publications tutorial video for a demonstration of the steps required.

Please see the Publications section below for more information.

Faculty scholarly activity reporting

Beginning with the 2019–2020 academic year, we will utilize the MCW Faculty Collaboration Database to maintain all of our faculty’s various scholarly, professional, and research activities performed throughout the year instead of the Faculty Activity Checklist that you have been completing for the past few years. This will reduce duplication of efforts, align departmental goals and measurements with those of the institution, and make it easier for faculty to maintain their CVs and ensuring their activities, contributions, and accomplishments are not unnoticed.

MCW Faculty Collaboration Database (FCD)

The FCD is the primary source of truth for a faculty member’s activities throughout the institution. It powers many official MCW platforms, including our public departmental website, and is the official way to maintain faculty members’ official MCW CVs. CVs can be maintained using the FCD interface, or by uploading one’s CV to the FCD.

The FCD can be accessed at fcd.mcw.edu, and you can log in using your MCW email address and MCW email password (not your departmental A*Net password).

Help and Tutorials can be accessed using the link at header of every page.

For questions or issues with the FCD itself, please use the Contact form accessible from the link in the header. For other questions, like about how items should be entered or how they will be aggregated or viewed for your end-of-year summary, please contact Jacob Mischka at jmischka@mcw.edu.

Visibility

For every entry a Visibility can be specified (Public, Protected, Private). The levels are described on each page below the entry form. Private entries will not count toward your end-of-year summary.

Dates

Be as specific with dates as possible. For individual events (lectures, etc), specify both the start and end dates with the date of the event. For long term events, omit the end date to indicate that they are presently active.

Publications

There are two types of publications in the FCD: CV Bibliography and Publications. Publications are used throughout a variety of MCW platforms, including the publication feed your FCD profile itself and the publications feed on the MCW website. Additionally, Publications can be tied to a PubMed or Scopus entry, enabling automatic updates and cross-linking. The CV Bibliography contains the publications present on your official MCW CV, grouped into several categories. Both are important, as they are used for different purposes. Ideally, Publications should be imported from PubMed or Scopus and copied to your CV Bibliography using the Copy to CV feature.

Publications can be imported from PubMed or Scopus using the Publications section in the sidebar. However, only publications present in Bibliography section of your CV will be counted toward your end-of-year summary. Imported publications must be copied to CV using Copy to CV feature to be counted in your summary.

If a publication is not present in PubMed or Scopus, it may be entered manually in the Bibliography section of your CV, or manually in the Publications section and copied to your CV. Creating a Publication and copying it to your CV Bibliography is preferred, as it will allow your work to receive maximum visibility. However, the choice is ultimately up to you.

The Bibliography section of your CV is the ultimate source of truth for your end-of-year summary publications. Any items present only in the Publications section will not be considered.

Departmental education activities

We will automatically consider your departmental education lectures (those scheduled in New Innovations and visible on the A*Net Calendar) and your resident mentorships. You do not need to enter these activities into your FCD CV.

Any other activities, such as lectures to other departments or institutions, should be included in your FCD CV in order to be considered.
