June 5 – 9 is National CAA Week

Celebrate the contributions of our 13 Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants and learn more about the Master of Science in Anesthesia program during National CAA Week June 5-9!

Our CAAs are advanced practice providers who are qualified by academic and clinical education to provide anesthetic care with oversight by a qualified physician anesthesiologist. They work collaboratively with physician anesthesiologists to prescribe and administer therapeutic interventions in the perioperative and intensive care settings.

Currently, 13 CAAs are on staff in our Department, with plans for additional recruitment. They currently practice at the Froedtert Surgery Center, Froedtert Birth Center, Community Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

The CAA role at MCW has been supported in conjunction with MCW’s MSA Program, which was established in 2016 as MCW’s first allied health program under the School of Medicine. The program recruited its first class of 12 students in 2016, and will matriculate its second class of 14 students in August 2017.

This week, the MSA Program will host a booth in various locations – stop by for giveaways and to learn more about the CAA profession:
